Ángela Pascual and Jordi Sapena are a musician couple who live in Valencia. Music is their life.

Ángela carries music in her veins. She grew up surrounded by the Surfin’ Bichos and has played with Soledad Vélez and Ramírez. Meanwhile, Jordi played guitar and keyboard for La Habitación Roja. They now have two defining projects: Capricornio Uno and a family.

We spoke to the Valencian duo about their city, their music and what it is that changed their lives.

How did you two meet? Where did the idea to form a group together come from?

We met through friends we have in common and our first “date” was at a music festival. So our relationship has been closely related to music since the very beginning. Both of us play several instruments and we dreamed about making music together since the day we met. It all came rather naturally, there was no planning needed.

You live in Valencia. How does the city influence your music?

We live here. The studio where we practice, compose and record is here. This is also where we created a family. So the city (and what a city it is!) is in everything we do. Its light, its noise and everything that happens there is constantly influencing us. We love living in Valencia and we think it has a very positive impact on us, creatively speaking.

What does music mean to you both?

Music is everything for us. It’s a driving force, essential. It’s entertainment and work at the same time. Ángela’s family is full of musicians and all their lives revolve around music, whether that’s through playing music or enjoying it from the audience side. In my case, it’s also what I’ve spent my professional life doing since I was 15.

How does a Capricornio Uno song get created from the ground up?

Our creative process has changed somewhat over time. Before we became parents, we spent a lot more time composing and new tracks sprouted a lot faster.

The process has always been natural, spending time on our own and then together. We each have our own preferred instruments or sounds and, in the end, it has always been like putting the pieces of a jigsaw together.

Nowadays, as a mother and father, we have less time to compose but it's something we think about all the time and we always try to find time in between everything else that needs to get done during the week.

If you could only choose one song to define yourselves, which one would it be?

It’s very difficult to pick just one song but, right now, we would choose Holes by Mercury Rev. It’s one of those songs that changes your life.
