Two sisters, two milkshakes, one Casa
At Casa Capicúa, everything tastes better.

As soon as you step into Casa Capicúa, you can't help but feel at home. And that is exactly what Laura and Marta Benito were looking to achieve. These twin sisters have made Casa Capicúa into a coffee shop with the feel of a bar in the Roqueta neighbourhood of Valencia. Here, they demonstrate it’s possible to eat out just as well as you do at home. They tell us all about how they have done this and teach us how to make one of their milkshakes at home.

How did Casa Capicúa come about? Where did the name come from?
Laura and Marta
We conceived Casa Capicúa in the middle of the pandemic. While restaurants were closed, we went crazy looking for a place to open up. We wanted to have our own space, make it feel like home. Which is where the name Casa Capicúa came from. Our old catering firm was called Capicúa, first of all because we're twins, and then because it referred to Mediterranean cuisine (the logo was a fish cut in half, hence 'cap i cua' which means 'head and tail’ in Valencian). Now, this Mediterranean style has been reflected in our coffee shop with the terracotta latticework a nod to vegetable gardens and the blue of the fish that hang from the ceiling represent the Mediterranean Sea. And like we said, we added the word 'casa' because we’ve now set up shop in a fixed establishment. This is our home, but we want you to feel like it's yours too.
What makes Casa Capicúa special?
Laura and Marta
I think what makes us special is that, being in the middle of a little neighbourhood, we try to make our customers feel at home. I would say that 80% of our customers are regulars, which means that we know one another really well, they know all about our lives and we know about theirs. Often, several tables get chatting to one another and we like to say it's like a community patio, because it feels like we’re a small family.

How would you define your menu?
Laura and Marta
We have a weekly menu that we publish via Instagram stories every Sunday. It's a fixed menu, and we do it that way to control how much food we will use (throwing food away is a major pet peeve of ours). When it comes to the dishes, we try to make them as varied, healthy and fresh as possible, and every Thursday they're vegetarian.
What tips would you have for us to make healthy and delicious meals?
Laura and Marta
It’s simple. We think to ourselves, could we eat this all week and feel good about ourselves. If the answer is yes, then full steam ahead.
And now... it’s time to get to work.
Laura and Marta show us how to prepare two really refreshing, healthy and tasty milkshakes, perfect for cooling down on a hot summer’s day. You can whip these up in a flash using our Moi Slim blender, and even take them with you when you head for a dip in the pool!
