The esmorzaret is a pause to value the enjoyment of food in good company. But this esmorzaret (or “little mid-morning snack” in English) has little to do with what you are thinking. They are three dishes that could well be considered a banquet, so get ready, we’re going to show you how to cook your own Valencian elevenses.
The picaeta
It’s an aperitif that includes salad, cacaus (peanuts in their shells), lupines, olives... The tomato, the jewel in the crown of the Valencian countryside, is perfect for preparing a salad. It’s a recipe that won't take you long and you’ll get a dish that’s delicioussss.
Valencian tomato salad
- Ingredients
- 2 ribbed tomatoes (or Raf type)
- 2 pink onions in vinegar
- Assorted pickled ingredients (split olives, chilli peppers, capers, etc.)
- EVOO
- 1 clove of garlic

The entrepans
Anything goes when filling your sandwich: sausage, omelette, vegetables, fish... And to have a proper taste of it you have to accompany it with a beer, a vermouth or alimoná If you want to cook the star dish of the esmorzaret take a note of this recipe: broad bean sandwich with sausages. It’s prepared with Valencian pataqueta bread, a type of bread in the shape of a half moon as well as being the perfect size to prepare a sandwich. We love it!
Broad bean and sausage bocadillo (baguette sandwich)
- Ingredients
- 1 pataqueta bread (typical of the orchard of Valencia)
- 2 kilos broad beans with pod
- 1/2 onion
- 50 ml EVOO
- 6 sausages
- 1 handful of garlic shoots

The cremaet
And finally, to properly digest this (big) snack you need a cremaet that is, a strong coffee with a little rum, sugar, lemon and cinnamon. This dessert is tremendously successful with those who are most faithful to this tradition, so you cannot finish your esmorzaret without having one.

- 2 tablespoons sugar
- A piece of cinnamon stick
- 1 piece of lemon peel
- 1 coffee
